Fifth Generation SUV Benefits From a Few Tweaks

If you bought a fourth generation Honda CR-V last model year, there’s no reason to lament. There is a reason it was the best selling SUV in America by a wide margin. So instead of throwing out the baby with the bathwater, Honda decided to just make a tweak here and there for this year’s fifth generation model. The 2017 Honda CR-V is a bit longer, a bit taller and just a smidge wider than last year’s entry. With a longer wheelbase, the ride has improved as has the interior legroom. There are a few more refinements which you can see when the new CR-V arrives soon at the Chapman Honda showroom.

Cabin Full of Improvements

Those familiar with earlier versions of the CR-V will notice a vast improvement in the cabin area of the 2017 model. Upgraded materials give a more sophisticated look to the interior, and all but the base LX model receive a flat-panel touchscreen that is simple to use when controlling the audio and communication systems. All 2017 CR-Vs come with climate control, noise control and Bluetooth audio and phone streaming. Keyless passive entry, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes with the EX trim level and above, as does the Honda Sensing Safety suite that includes forward collision warning, smart cruise control and systems to help keep you from drifting out of your lane. If you choose either the EX-L or Touring trim package you’ll get leather upholstery, dual power front seats and a premium audio system.

Consumers, Choose Your Engines

Honda offers an old-school naturally aspirated 2.4L 4-cylinder engine, which has served the company well, or a brand new 4-cylinder that comes with turbocharging. You get a bit of a boost in horsepower from the turbocharged engine, and you will notice considerably more torque off the line from this model over the 2.4L engine. Both engines are paired with Honda’s smooth CVT automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is the standard option, but all-wheel drive is also on the menu.

Tuned Suspension Delivers Sporty Ride

Honda has chosen to tune the CR-V suspension to produce a sporty ride where drivers feel a part of the action as they power through corners. Dual-pinion electric power steering is an upgrade over the 2016 model, producing more road feel and high-speed stability. Take the 2017 Honda CR-V for a test drive when it gets to Chapman Honda and see why America has fallen in love with this little SUV.
