Now in its 10th generation, the Honda Accord remains the best selling car in America thanks to a history of dependability and a willingness to evolve with the times. The 2018 Accord is a far cry from the three-door hatchback that came to America sporting a whopping 68-horsepower engine in 1976. New from the ground up, the latest model offers a lighter, more rigid body to improve efficiency and handling, as well as a sporty new design. Two all-new engines and an innovative 10-speed automatic transmission helped the new Accord earn honors as the 2018 North American Car of the Year. “Honda took a clean-sheet approach to reinventing America’s most popular car, and we couldn’t be prouder to receive this honor for Accord as the North American Car of the Year,” according to Honda VP Henio Arcangeli, Jr. See the new Accord and take a test drive when you visit Chapman Honda in Tucson.

The light truck division of American Honda broke an annual record for sales with the best December in the company’s history. The three-row Pilot SUV showed a 54 percent jump in sales in December from the previous year, thanks to increased production in the Alabama production line. The CR-V is Honda’s best selling model, delivering almost 40,000 vehicles in December. The HR-V also set an annual record with more than 94,000 units delivered, up almost 15 percent from a year ago. “2017 was a terrific year for the Honda brand with the continued fortification of our light truck and passenger car lineups, and a new generation of electrified vehicles combining to reach a record number of new customers for a fourth consecutive year,” according to Honda VP Henio Arcangeli, Jr. “Eight all-new or refreshed product launches is an impressive achievement for any car company, but it put us in a strong, competitive position to maintain our unique commitment to retail sales to individual buyers.” See why Honda continues to be one of the most popular automakers in America by taking a trip to Chapman Honda in Tucson.

Passenger Car Division Also Strong

While the light trucks did a lot of the heavy lifting in terms of sales, the Honda passenger car division also made some noise. The popular Civic had a record annual sales performance, delivering 377,286 vehicles in 2017. The Accord, with a new turbo model arriving in showrooms, topped the 320,000 mark in sales for the year. The Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid is now being sold in all 50 states, marking Honda’s intention to compete in the electric vehicle market. Overall, the company had its best year ever with almost 1.5 million units delivered worldwide.

Insight Prototype Set to Debut

The future looks bright for Honda, with vehicles such as the all-new Honda Insight Prototype debuting at the Detroit North American International Auto Show this month. The Prototype Insight offers a preview of what to expect when the 2019 Insight hybrid hits the market later this year. It will be the fifth electrified vehicle that Honda has brought to the market in the past year, joining the Clarity fuel cell, electric and plug-in hybrid, as well as the Accord Hybrid. “The new 2019 Honda Insight signals we are entering a new era of electrification with a new generation of Honda products that offer customers the benefits of advanced powertrain technology without the traditional trade-offs in design, premium features or packaging,” Arangeli said.
